Vegetative cycle

The late arrival of cold weather resulted in a late vegetative resumption, with an estimated delay of about ten days compared to the previous year. This phenological delay persisted until the end of summer, but in August and September there was a recovery in developmental progress.
The second part of September was particularly influential in aspects that will affect the structure of the wines, especially in terms of the accumulation of phenolic substances. All grapes, including those for 2016 Barolo Cerequio, were grown in an optimal state of health, and ripening was completed without difficulty both technologically and phenologically, as indicated by the low amount of malic acid, less than 1 g/L.

Climatic trend

January 2016 and the first part of February were characterized by mild temperatures and low rainfall, confirming the weather pattern that had already characterized the first part of winter. Towards the end of February and throughout March, temperatures dropped and rainfall was abundant, providing a good water reserve for the soil, although less than in the previous year.
Spring began with some rainfall, which, however, did not cause any phytopathological damage, thanks to not too high average temperatures, mainly during the nights.
Summer had a gradual start but lasted until the end of September. This year we produced our 2016 Barolo Cerequio.
