VINTAGE

1999

WEATHER CONDITIONS

The good weather conditions in the first months of the year favoured a regular growing season of vines; the heating accumulation and the available water were optimum.
The rains in mid-September did not endanger the health of the grapes, in particular for nebbiolo; after mid-September, the high pressure gave rainy days with interesting temperature ranges that certainly will enhance the Barolo aromas.

After two extraordinary vintages, we can say that 1999 was in no way inferior. This Barolo vintage will have a very remarkable longevity.

GROWING SEASON

Thanks to the regular weather conditions, the growing season was regular too; the values of sugar accumulation were similar to the previous year’s but with a slightly higher overall acidity. We can say that the weather

conditions allowed the achievement of a good balance among the grapes different components. We had to patiently wait for the end of the production cycle to better exploit the effects of the temperature ranges.

YIELD

The values of sugar accumulation were similar to the previous year’s but with a good acidity level. From a quantitative point of view, in spite of the green pruning and the thinning, the quantity increased by approximately 5-10% depending on the sub-zones.
