VINTAGE

2002

WEATHER CONDITIONS

The weather conditions were absolutely anomalous, due to both the amount of rain fallen incessantly in the spring and summer (even in August) and the hail that hit hard on many occasions, especially in September.
The temperatures were constantly lower than the average, both in the spring and the summer.

Grape harvest date
FROM 15 TO 24 OCTOBER

After 6 harvests characterized by dry and hot weather conditions, 2002 gave a different harvest: more work, much selection and much waste to decide not to make wine in the end.

GROWING SEASON

The growing season was particularly difficult, with “grey mould” attacks and hailstorms that devastated the vineyards.

The grape harvest was particularly late, especially for Nebbiolo for Barolo and often it was necessary to harvest very damp or even wet grapes.

YIELD

Due to the hail and the mould (that made it necessary a very rigorous selection) and the particularly scarce yield, Nebbiolo for Barolo suffered from a drop up to 45% compared to normality.

WINE

AN UNEXCEPTIONAL VINTAGE

We decided not to produce our Barolo, due to the insufficient quality of the harvested grapes.
