Vegetative cycle

During April, we saw several rainy days, which, combined with mild temperatures, favored the appearance of mild symptoms of downy mildew. However, these issues were controlled thanks to a dry and windy May, as well as careful anagement of the foliage.
The phenological development of vines started slightly late but quickly recovered from the averages of recent years, leading to an earlier harvest date.
A hallmark of this vintage was a very irregular ripening of the grapes, influenced mainly by specific microclimatic conditions rather than by the varieties themselves.
In the case of the 2009 Barolo Cerequio, it is certainly possible to say that this was an ideal vintage for aging.

Climatic trend

The winter characterized by heavy snowfall and an initially wet spring in 2009 ensured a valuable accumulation of water reserves in the soil for our 2009 Barolo Cerequio.
During summer, we experienced alternating hot and cool periods, with peaks of heat in the second half of August and virtually no rain. This was followed by a September characterized by dry and pleasantly warm weather, which favored full ripening of the grapes and levels of malic acid lower than average.
