BAROLO CASTIGLIONE FALLETTO 2022

2022

Boroli’s Barolo Castiglione Falletto 2022 interprets the character of its terroir with balance and intensity in a warm, sun-filled vintage. The bouquet is broad and enveloping, opening on ripe red fruit aromas of cherry and raspberry, accompanied by elegant floral notes of dried rose and spicy nuances of liquorice and sweet tobacco. Subtle balsamic and mineral accents complete a complex, harmonious bouquet.
On the palate, the wine shows structure and depth, with dense yet well-integrated tannins and a pleasant freshness that carries the palate. The finish is long, savoury and well balanced, with echoes of ripe fruit and spice enhancing its elegance and persistence.

Vegetative cycle

2022 was an unusual and challenging vintage, yet one that highlighted the resilience and adaptability of the vine in the Langhe. Climatic conditions, defined by high temperatures and scarce rainfall, posed significant agronomic challenges, but ultimately became an opportunity to produce grapes of extraordinary concentration and health. The resulting wines are powerful, balanced and show strong potential for evolution over time.

From late May onwards, a marked rise in temperatures was recorded and remained consistent throughout much of the summer. Despite the lack of significant rainfall, the vines showed excellent adaptation, thanks to water reserves accumulated during winter and careful soil management.

Harvest was among the earliest of recent years: the first picks for sparkling wine varieties began at the end of August, while Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto reached full phenolic maturity in September, delivering grapes of exceptional quality, rich in colour, tannins and aromatic complexity.

Climatic trend

Winter was mild and marked by low rainfall, resulting in limited water reserves in the soils from the early stages of the growing season. Despite this, budburst occurred at the usual time, supported by average spring temperatures and stable weather conditions.

High temperatures and prolonged drought led to flowering around ten days earlier than the seasonal average. The wine vine responded by adapting its vegetative growth, producing smaller clusters, reduced vigour and no lateral shoots. Excellent grape health and the complete absence of fungal pressure greatly facilitated vineyard management.

Nebbiolo reached full phenolic maturity around 20 September, with small berries and an outstanding skin-to-pulp ratio. This balance ensured a high concentration of tannins and aromatic compounds, resulting in a Barolo of structure, elegance and remarkable ageing potential.
