Chardonnay 2022, with its splendid luminous golden color, represents elegance in advance. This vintage stood out from the beginning, producing a bouquet of ripe pear, white peach, and a hint of spring flowers. On the palate, it offers a well-defined structure and complexity that suggests a promise of significant evolution over time.
For 2022 Chardonnay the start of the growing season followed the usual timing of recent years, but was one week earlier compared to the previous year. It became evident right from the start that there was a lack of water in the soil. Furthermore, the spring continued with sunny weather and no significant rainfall.
This helped to offset the early growth, allowing for a standard bud break for all grape varieties.
Once again, Nebbiolo demonstrates its unique connection to the land, remarkably adapting to the climatic conditions perfectly. However, this has been a great year for our 2022 Chardonnay, too. By mid-September, it is technically ready for harvest, while its phenolic ripeness is increasing. This ripeness stabilizes in all areas around the middle of the month, marking the start of the harvest.
The grapes are smaller than average, with a higher ratio of skin to pulp. This is expected to result in better extraction of tannins and aromatic compounds, aided by the excellent alcohol content that facilitates this process during maceration.
With a focus on preserving acidity during winemaking and considering other factors, we anticipate producing full-bodied wines with exceptional long-term aging potential.
