Chardonnay 2020, with its splendid golden color, is an explosion of freshness. This vintage was characterized by ideal weather conditions that contributed to creating a bouquet of lively citrus, green apple, and a pleasant hint of vanilla. On the palate, it offers a lively structure and freshness that enhances the crisp fruit and a subtle touch of almond.
The dry and sunny spring of 2020 ensured a uniform vegetative growth for 2020 Chardonnay that began at the end of February and concluded, for the later varieties, towards the second half of March.
The initial vegetative vigor, brought about by abundant water supply at the beginning of summer, allowed the vines to develop their productive physiology to the fullest.
The year for 2020 Chardonnay began with a calm winter, featuring mild temperatures and limited precipitation, especially in the form of snow. The early spring was relatively dry and sunny. March and April passed with good weather and pleasant temperatures, along with low rainfall, initially suggesting an early harvest. However, this early expectation was contradicted in May when unstable weather brought numerous rainy days, a situation that continued into June.
Regarding the longer-cycle grape varieties like Nebbiolo, there was an initial indication of an early harvest as veraison occurred between early and mid-August. Subsequently, a drop in temperatures temporarily slowed down the ripening process, but it picked up significantly in the second half of September.
Nebbiolo grapes were harvested in optimal conditions: moderate nighttime temperatures led to a rapid accumulation of polyphenols, which were already at excellent levels by mid-September.
