Nebbiolo 2020

2020

2020 Nebbiolo is the result and expression of a robust vintage. Its deep ruby color is a distinctive sign. The bouquet is rich in succulent red fruits, with notes of ripe cherries, wild strawberries, and a hint of mature plum. On the palate, it offers a full-bodied and vigorous structure.

Vegetative cycle

The dry and sunny spring of 2020 guaranteed a homogeneous vegetative recovery for 2020 Nebbiolo grapes which began at the end of February and ended, for the later varieties, towards the second half of March.

The initial vegetative vigor caused by the abundant water supply with which the summer began allowed the vines to develop their productive physiology in the best possible way.

Climatic trend

The 2020 year began in the name of a winter without particular criticalities, characterized by mild temperatures and little rainfall, especially snowy ones. The first part of spring was relatively dry and sunny. The months of March and April were spent with good weather and mild temperatures, with little rainfall, suggesting, in the first instance, an early harvest. This forecast, however, was denied in May, when the unstable climate recorded a considerable number of rainy days, a situation that lasted until late June.

As far as the longer cycle vines such as Nebbiolo are concerned, there was immediately the feeling of an early harvest given the veraison which took place between the beginning and the middle of August. Subsequently, the drop in temperatures caused a temporary slowdown in ripening which then resumed exponentially in the second half of September.

The 2020 Nebbiolo was harvested in optimal conditions: the not so excessive night temperatures led to a rapid accumulation of polyphenols which were already at excellent values around mid-September.
