Barolo Cerequio 2017

2017

Barolo Cerequio 2017 is a vintage characterized by vibrant enthusiasm. Its lively ruby color is a tribute to the energy of that year. The bouquet is effervescent, with notes of succulent cherry, wild rose petals, and oriental spices. On the palate, the structure is lively, with agile tannins and a joy of flavors that go from red fruits to licorice.

Vegetative cycle

Regarding the length of the vine growing cycle, 2017 differs significantly from other early vintages. This year, the period from sprouting to technological maturity, while early, averaged 185 days, while in previous similar vintages it fluctuated around 170 days, in contrast to the 200 days of vintages considered ‘late’.
In short, that of 2017 Barolo Cerequio was an early year, but the vine still completed its growing cycle in full.

Climatic trend

2017 will be remembered for its warm weather, and particularly its lack of rain. Winter was mild with little snowfall, while spring saw some precipitation and temperatures above seasonal average, which facilitated the early development of the vines, maintained throughout the growing cycle. Starting in May, a long period of good weather began thanks to the passage of several anticyclones.

From the first week of September, temperatures dropped significantly and we witnessed a weather closer to seasonal averages, with significant differences between day and night. This situation particularly helped the polyphenolic profile of black grapes with a medium-long growing cycle, such as Nebbiolo, which recorded different data than other “excellent” vintages. In fact, in 2017 we experienced improvements in terms of both quantity and extraction for our 2017 Barolo Cerequio.
