Vegetative cycle

The plant growth cycle in 1998 was regular and showed interesting developments, especially for Nebbiolo and Nebbiolo for Barolo. Although the sugar content appears slightly lower than usual, this is considered a positive sign for red wines intended for long aging, such as Barolo 1998. However, the final judgment will come only after the aging process. Expectations for Barolo 1998 are for exceptional structure and significant aging potential.

Climatic trend

In the early months of 1998, which were characterized by dry and mild weather, early budding occurred, similar to what happened in the previous year. June, on the other hand, it was a rainy month, which favored the expansion of berries and vegetation, promoting greater homogeneity among plants and vines. July and August were particularly warm and dry, free of mold attacks, accelerating the ripening process.
September stood out as an excellent month, warm with little rainfall, appropriately ventilated, which favored increased sugar levels in the grapes and reduced acidity, especially malic acidity. It is certain that the weather also favored late-ripening grape varieties, including the Nebbiolo grapes used for Barolo 1998.
