Barolo 2016 represents the pinnacle of oenological excellence. This extraordinary wine, originating from the hills of the Langhe, distinguishes itself with its deep ruby color. The bouquet is a captivating interplay of aromas, with notes of black cherry, rose petals, tobacco, and truffle. On the palate, it is an explosion of complexity, featuring elegant tannins and a wide range of flavors that span from red fruit to incense.
The ‘late’ cold weather caused a delay in vegetative recovery estimated at around ten days compared to the previous year. This phenological delay lasted until the end of the summer. The development delay observed in the first part of 2016 was made up for in August and September.
In particular, the second part of September was decisive for 2016 Barolo and the components that will determine the structure of the wines, especially with regard to the accumulation of phenolic substances. All the grapes were healthy, and full ripeness was achieved without any problems, both technologically and phenologically, as demonstrated by the low quantity of malic acid, less than 1 g/L.
For the 2016 Barolo production the month of January 2016 and the first part of February were characterised by mild temperatures and low rainfalls, confirming the weather pattern that had already been evident in the first part of the winter. Towards the end of February and throughout March, on the other hand, temperatures dropped and rain was abundant, providing the soil with a good water reserve, although less than last year.
Spring began with appreciable rain episodes, which, however, did not cause any phytopathological damage, thanks to low average temperatures, mostly due to nighttime lows.
Summer also started slowly, but developed until the end of September.
