Vegetative cycle

The abundant availability of water in 2001 facilitated an early bud break; starting from May, thanks to the high temperatures, the vines showed rapid vegetative growth with a considerable leaf surface. For Nebbiolo, the flowering phase began in the last week of May, followed by regular vegetative development. The period of instability in September temporarily delayed the ripening of the red grape berries, but soon the weather stabilized, ensuring perfect ripening for Nebbiolo and perfect yield for Barolo 2001.

Climatic trend

The winter of 2001 characterized that year’s Barolo with long periods of rain, which helped create a good water reserve in the soil; April was particularly unstable, with a sudden drop in temperatures. From May, temperatures experienced a slight increase above seasonal averages, with little precipitation in June and July.
August and the first days of September were marked by intense heat and absence of rain, followed by a period of instability with further temperature drop.
