Barolo 2009

2009

Barolo 2009 is a wine that reflects the vintage characterized by exceptional warmth. This grape maturity results in a wine that is both powerful and elegant at the same time. The intense ruby color is accompanied by a bouquet of enveloping aromas of ripe cherry, tobacco, and spices. In the mouth, the tannins are silky, and the flavors of red fruit and leather create a complex and satisfying combination.

Vegetative cycle

In April, several rainy days and mild temperatures favoured the appearance of slight symptoms of downy mildew, well checked by a dry and ventilated May and a very meticulous anagement of the foliage. The phenological development of vines was late, though it immediately ecovered compared to the average of the last years, with a significant advance of the harvesting date. A characteristic of the year was a very irregular ripening of grapes, caused more by the microclimate features rather than the variety ones. As for the 2009 Barolo, we can certainly say that the result was really suitable for ageing.

Climatic trend

The very snowy winter and rainy early spring of 2009 ensured an optimum soil water supply for this year’s 2009 Barolo.
A summer with periods of hot/cool alternation, heat peaks in the second half of August and almost no rain, followed by a dry and pleasantly warm September favoured full ripening of grapes with malic acid contents below average.
