Vegetative cycle

The 2003 vintage started late tahn normal, with bud opening delayed of approximately 15 days. However, within a short period of time, the blossoming stage was reached towards the end of May, in line with seasonal averages for hot vintages. In mid-June, therefore slightly in advance, veraison started, while for later varieties, such as Nebbiolo da Barolo, this phase lasted until mid/late July.
In early September, there was a sudden drop in temperatures, accompanied by moderate rainfall. Nebbiolo da Barolo ripening was optimum, with grapes in excellent sanitary condition. As a result, a high level of quality was achieved, with a significant increase in alcohol content for this 2003 Barolo Villero.

Climatic trend

The 2003 climatic year was marked by the consistent presence of stable, sunny conditions accompanied by a notable absence of precipitation.
This combination of elements led to an increase in temperatures to historic records in the region, and these exceptionally high temperatures remained constant for an extended period. In this climate we produced out 2003 Barolo Villero.
