Boroli’s Barolo Villero 2021 expresses with finesse and precision the elegance typical of this prestigious cru in Castiglione Falletto. The bouquet is refined, opening on notes of cherry and wild strawberry, intertwined with floral notes of rose and violet, enhanced by delicate herbal and sweet spice nuances.

On the palate, the wine reveals balance and tension, with fine, polished tannins supporting a harmonious and dynamic structure. Vibrant freshness and a mineral finish lend drive and depth to the palate, pointing to excellent ageing potential.

Spring 2021 saw a regular onset of the growing season, with budbreak occurring at the usual time and balanced shoot development. The final late cold spell caused no significant damage: even Nebbiolo from the Villero cru — an early and particularly sensitive variety — came through the critical period without notable consequences, aside from minor effects in a few lower-altitude parcels.

Favourable climatic conditions in the months that followed ensured regular flowering and slow, complete ripening, contributing to the aromatic finesse and balanced structure that define Barolo Villero.

Climatic trend

2021 was a year of climatic contrasts, yet overall well balanced and favourable to the production of high-quality Nebbiolo. Winter was mild but rich in precipitation, including snowfall, allowing for the accumulation of healthy water reserves, which proved essential during one of the driest summers in recent years.

From spring onwards, conditions remained stable, with a warm but moderate summer and rainfall that was limited yet well distributed. Marked night-time temperature swings, particularly from late September, supported excellent aromatic and phenolic ripening.

Vineyards in Castiglione Falletto were unaffected by hail events, allowing for a regular growing cycle through to harvest. Nebbiolo was picked between late September and the second week of October, yielding healthy, compact, small-berried grapes — ideal for a Barolo Villero defined by elegance, structure and longevity.
